Prosumer status step by step

· By: SolarHero team

What is a prosumer?

A prosumer (producer-consumer) is a household or business that produces its own renewable energy and feeds the surplus back to the grid. In Serbia, a simplified procedure has been available since 2021.

The 4 steps

1. Solar system installation

The SolarHero team installs the system: mounting structure, panels, inverter, cabling. This typically takes 1-2 days.

2. Meter point conversion

EPS (Elektroprivreda Srbije) replaces the meter with a bi-directional one. We handle this — the client has no tasks.

3. EPS contract

We sign the prosumer contract with EPS. This secures the right to net metering. The legal deadline for EPS to complete the connection is 5 days, but in practice this typically takes 2-4 weeks.

4. Done — start producing!

The system is running, the meter counts in both directions. What you produce but don't use appears as a credit on your bill.

Important: no building permit needed!

Prosumer systems in Serbia require neither a building nor an operating permit. The entire process is simplified, and SolarHero handles everything. Learn more about how it works.

Deadline: December 31, 2026

Those who obtain prosumer status by this date keep net metering for 25 years. Check if you qualify for subsidies, and contact us today!
